| After they did both book and score off-air a few years ago, they started alternating years...this year book, last year score, etc. If they make room for both on the air, it'll be by moving another award off-air. The DG has the right idea (though I wonder if it's CBS or TAP making these decisions), but what they really need is for all of the unions to band together to say that all of the awards should be given live. As long as the broadcast is limited to three hours (and does anybody really want it to go longer?), it's pretty much wishful thinking. There are 28 awards and 7–8 performances at the very least. Start figuring minimum times for those and you get to three hours before you even consider time for commercials. Even with only 16 awards to get on the air it adds up fast. The folks at TAP have a lot of hard choices to make, and they're all between bad and worse. |
