| Stephen Adly Guirgis' talent for vernacular speech is on full display here as performed by a very good group of actors. The play is lively and quite funny at times but it doesn't coalesce. There's too little sense of the titular lady who everyone has some history and/or relation to. And while it's fine that there's no real dramatic incident to speak of, the characters don't develop in any substantive way. This has the effect of making the play seem not entire, but a collection of vigorous study scenes for actors who can really dig in as these actors certainly do. |
