Unless there was yet another H. R. H. musical, that was the same show that ended up being called I and Albert. The title change actually came rather late in the process.
But just a few years before I and Albert, there was Love Match about Victoria and Albert. This had a book by Christian Hamllton (who was originally supposed to write the lyrics, to music by Milton Kaye, who was Shannon Bolin's husband), and a score by Maltby and Shire, who were initially brought in to doctor the score but ended up writing a whole new score. Love Match played tryout runs in Phoenix and Los Angeles in late 1968, but then a third tryout run in Detroit and a Broadway run were canceled. No theatre had yet been booked for Broadway. |
