It goes back to Joe Papp's time. My grandmother loved the park shows and used to take me to them. For for a long time, in a scrapbook, she had a huge NY Times ad that was for Summer Sponsors for Shakespeare in the Park. There was a picture of Joe Papp and quote from him saying that he needed 1,000 summer sponsors or something like that. Of course, back then, the price was only $10 per ticket to be a sponsor and get a free ticket. She used to buy us two and we'd go. I used to buy them when they were $100 if it was a really hot ticket but since they have almost tripled in price in 10 years, I can't afford it anymore.
