I had no idea she'd been in "Alfie." Fascinating. I first saw her the summer of 1973 in a pitifully slight John Mortimer play in the West End called "Collaborators," opposite John Wood. I was young(ish) and she was one of the most admired young actors in the world, after Elizabeth and Gudrun. But the script made no impact. Couldn't imagine why she'd chosen it. I would later wonder why she made some of the films she made, but she now talking very kindly about the romantic comedies. I do recall her praise of American actors. And she adored Bette Davis, who gave her one of her awards for "Women in Love."
