Josh Groban and Sara Bareilles kicked off the Tonys saluting ''the people who lose,'' which would be the majority of nominees.
Then they brought out the ''hardest-working people on Broadway'': ensemble members of ''every Tony-nominated musical.''
So does that mean that ''Margaritaville'' or ''Prince of Broadway,'' both shut out for nominations, were shut out here, too?
It went by too fast for me to see, but it looks like there was more than one member of ''The Band's Visit,'' etc. It would've been a nice gesture of unity to include someone from every Broadway show of the season, whether nominated or not. Performers don't get a say in whether their show gets nominated, but they're still showing up to do their best and entertain their audiences.
I also remember Tonys past where there was a montage of the marquees from the season's various offerings. |
