While this show is certainly well-sung by a talented cast, I really didn't like it. And I'm easy to please. For me this is the most cringeworthy show I've seen in a long time, perhaps since Amazing Grace a few seasons ago. The book was so full of cliches and so predictable, I actually considered leaving at intermission - something I have never done before in 38 years of regular theater going. I did stay and was glad to see Jimmy Buffet at the curtain call. That was the highlight of the show for me.
Also, the commercialism seemed so over the top. Yes, we see it creeping into more and more productions, but this seemed so blatantly designed to sell as much overpriced junk as possible to the masses. Was there any artistic integrity here at all?
Something about this show just rubbed me the wrong way. Easily the worst show of the season for me. |
