I agree with the OP. I think he knows just the right way to put his "insincerity" to good use. I haven't seen BOYS IN THE BAND yet, but by making his other characters (lovably) clueless, it works. His read on Elder Price showed that he fully believed he was the nicest sweetest guy in the world, while completely disregarding and ignoring what everyone else said. I thought it was smart as hell.
I like his work in "Girls," too. And I look forward to seeing BOYS IN THE BAND.
