As someone who's not a fan of the show, I'm tempted to ask "What exactly is there about Whizzer that needs to be understood?"
But I'll remove the snark and ask "What exactly is there about Whizzer that needs to be understood?"
I've seen FALSETTOLAND (with Bogardus), the FALSETTOS revival (with Rannells) and a regional production (can't remember the actor who played Whizzer) and until Rannells the character always seemed a cipher to me. A well-built, pretty cipher. Someone who would drive Marvin crazy within a couple of months.
But Rannells gave him an intellect and a wit and a sense of challenge and I suddenly felt I knew why Marvin would devote his life to this man. (Plus the sexual tension between Borle and Rannells was better than any other pairing I'd seen.) |
