4+ flights down. Service elevator up (10 at a time) + another flight of stairs to reach street level.
In his opening remarks, Jim Morgan was very quite clever. He welcomed us to "this performance of "Elevator Blues"
and said a Cole Porter song was added "Otis Regrets"
As for the show...
A beautiful performance by Akin Babatundé and David Weiss on guitar cannot save this very poorly-written story of Blind Lemon Jefferson.
Hoping for a touching, revelatory biography of this forgotten major jazz figure, I was very disappointed.
It's soporific when it could have enthralled. |
