| What these pointless, empty calorie calorie productions hark back to are the (mostly MGM) composer “biographies” of post war Hollywood. They are only watchable now for the Star turns between dreary dreary pseudo-bio scents. Unfortunately, the shows can’t assemble the kind of star talent we’re talking about in those films. A simple concert presentation would be far better than the awkward attempts to shoe-horn songs into dramatic scenes that they neither connect to nor illuminate. Truly a destruction of American musical theater. |
