| Saturday night I had the extreme pleasure of driving home from a long day at work and stumbling onto the WQXR live broadcast of Audra's concert from Caramoor. It was the same material as her Sing Happy album but for some reason, whether it was better microphones or increased familiarity with the delivery of these songs, she sounded much better than that recording with the NY Phil. After arriving home and parking, I actually sat for 3 more songs in the car because I couldn't tear myself away. Tonight I went to the WQXR website to see if maybe the whole concert was still available to hear. It is not. However I did notice something quite interesting in the comments section of that page. Apparently later in the concert she sang a song that had objectionable lyrics (at least to public radio standards) and WQXR cut away from the concert. The people posting were asking what that song was. I'm curious too. Anyone know? |

| Definitely that one. She sang it tonight at Longwood and it was hilarious. The rest of the evening was sublime. | |

| I was at the Caramoor concert and, as always, Audra is a force of nature. Not only was her singing ravishing, her rapport with the audience has spoiled me. It's now disappointing to go to any concert where the singer doesn't tell funny stories to the audience. I love how Audra's voice has deepened with age to a gorgeous velvety sound. She was also tangentially political with comments like, "I feel we are losing our humanity." Such a thrilling night, as always with Audra. If you have never seen her give a concert, GO!!! |
