Saturday night I had the extreme pleasure of driving home from a long day at work and stumbling onto the WQXR live broadcast of Audra's concert from Caramoor. It was the same material as her Sing Happy album but for some reason, whether it was better microphones or increased familiarity with the delivery of these songs, she sounded much better than that recording with the NY Phil. After arriving home and parking, I actually sat for 3 more songs in the car because I couldn't tear myself away.
Tonight I went to the WQXR website to see if maybe the whole concert was still available to hear. It is not. However I did notice something quite interesting in the comments section of that page. Apparently later in the concert she sang a song that had objectionable lyrics (at least to public radio standards) and WQXR cut away from the concert. The people posting were asking what that song was. I'm curious too. Anyone know? |
