| The NY Post entertainment section posted a picture of audience members unfurling a flag to protest DeNiro's Tony protest about Trump. (Well at least they waited till the show was over.). What with the HAMILTON lecture aimed at VP- elect Pence(the poor man was trapped during Curtain Calls), is this becoming a trend.? .....I hope not......I plan on visiting NYC next year to see I MARRIED AN ANGEL at Encores..... There could be protests about the protest about the protest......At any rate, I recently purchased the BRONX TALE CD , it's a wonderful Doo Wop score... I hope to catch the show on tour in Chicago.. ......Maybe the MAGA protest will increase business for BRONX TALE... Was any one at the Sat eve Curtain Call event.? | |

| Pence wasn't "trapped during Curtain Calls." He had already started to exit up the aisle when the brief speech began. He chose to stop, turn around, and listen. If he had wanted to keep going, he could have. | |

| Some people on this site have a funny sense of what constitutes a lecture. BVD made a brief appeal that Pence recognize the company's humanity. Considering Pence's spotty humanitarian record, including his silence on the forcible separation of children from their parents, that reminder seems well-earned. | |

| And, especially at a show like HAMILTON that is all about diversity is all forms. I find it hard to believe that Pence, or those who think and act like him, would have even enjoyed HAMILTON, since he seems to think only white, straight men should have rights as citizens. I wondered at the time if he attended simply because it was the hottest ticket on Broadway without actually knowing anything about it beforehand. He simply cannot be a regular patron of any kind of art, much less a regular theatregoer...not with his mindset. | |

| thinking of the lyric from "Tripletsl.". We do everything alike we look alike we walk alike we talk alike" we judge everyone and That's diversity . Like the song says, "Ah ,well." So Pence stopped and listened to the comments, That could have been mere politeness, Or a willingness to listen to the views of others. I don't know ,as I'm not psychic and am un- able to read people's minds.. But I agree with you that only liberal/left of center folk should be allowed to attend theater.....(I'm being facetious)...Wouldn't Attending ANGELS in America be a good way to shake up the views of some folk? | |

| I suspect he attended purely for the headlines, the same as he attended that football match, just so he could walk out. He's a canny politician. | |

| At the end of A Bronx Tale, a man turned around and faced the audience to show a huge Trump flag. He was escorted shortly after. | |

| I doubt he bought the ticket. Someone in the Trump organization bought him the ticket. How many people know that DeNiro directed A Bronx Tale? Heck, even I didn't know until I read this thread |

| So the political content defines whether or not a protest is allowed? The same standard must be consistently applied to everyone | |

| You'll have to refresh my memory as to which protests have been allowed in Broadway audiences. | |

| I can't think of one. The HAMILTON speech was sponsored by management, and I was pleased to read that the banner people were escorted from the theater>If you want to protest, don't heckle the audience. Check out what kind of permit you'd need, and protest outside the theater, with blocking entrance or egress. | |
