Broadway Grosses 6/17 — Tony winners increase with 'Band's Visit' up $114K and 'Harry Potter' up $176K

  • Last week, which ended June 17, Broadway grosses totaled $39,653,552 for 33 shows.

    In the prior week, which ended June 10, Broadway grosses totaled $39,211,500 for 34 shows.

    In the comparable week last year, Broadway grosses totaled $34,505,438 for 35 shows.




  • In the first week following the Tony Awards, all but one of the winning shows had upticks in their grosses. Carousel was the exception.

    —As for the winning best musicals: The Band's Visit sold out the week, up by $119,202 to $1,069,845 (or 104% of its potential gross). Musical revival winner Once On This Island was up $80,188.

    — Most musicals that performed on the Tony Awards show had an increase in grosses last week with two exceptions: Carousel was down $-18,087 and Summer was down $-84,478 from the prior week.

    — The three plays to win Tonys benefitted significantly: Harry Potter and the Cursed Child added $176,187 to its gross compared to the prior week. Three Tall Women was up by $83,661 to $1,077,919, the first time the successful revival topped the million mark in the comparatively small 787-seat Golden Theatre. Angels in America was up last week by $77,105.




  • Travesties closed at the American Airlines Theatre on Sunday after 27 previews 63 regular performances. The not-for-profit revival had a cumulative gross of $4,355,637 at an average ticket price of $79. About 83% of the seats were occupied, both paid and comped, on average over the run.
