Anthony Newley and Barbra Streisand in a musical about Napoleon and Josephone?

In the 1970s, I read an unauthorized biography about Barbra Streisand. It stated that she was offered to play Josephine in a musical about Napoleon and Josephine, with Anthony Newley as Napoleon. It stated the project fell apart when Streisand would only agree to a very limited run. Anybody else heard anything like this, or was the author of the book smoking crack? Thank you for your input. A quick Google search reveals it was a proposed film, not a stage musical, with a screenplay by Gavin Lambert (Inside Daisy Clover, I Never Promised You a Rose Garden). Leslie Bricusse was to have written the score. I couldn't find why the project fell apart.
