Six writers, six directorsand sixteen actors have been enlisted by the Troupe and given the task of creating six new plays overnight out of thin air! July 3 THE DRAG EXPLOSION created and hosted by Linda Simpson Schedule: Tuesday at8pm Tickets: $10 Linda Simpson, a shining star of NYC’s drag scene for almost 30 years, is thrilled be back at The Wild Project with an encore presentation of her-storical slideshow The Drag Explosion on Tuesday, July 3rd, at 8pm. Admission is $10. All of the photos in The Drag Explosion were shot by Linda from the late 1980s to the mid ‘90s (back when it was rare to hobnob with a camera), and they reveal a golden age of NYC drag history. During this era the drag scene remarkably transformed from an underground art form into a pop-culture phenomenon. The photos capture wild nightlife, queer activism, and all sorts of color characters as they joyfully pushed the boundaries of gender expression. An educational and entertaining her-story lesson! July 8 at 7 PM GASLIT a devised piece directed by Brenna Palughi With Julia Crockett, Kimiye Corwin, Marianna Mcclellan, Niki Morrissette, Sarah Baskin Tickets: $25 ($20 in advance) gaslit is a devised piece inspired by the Greek prophetess, Cassandra, who was gifted with the power of prophecy by Apollo. When she refused his sexual advances, she was given a curse wherein nobody would believe her prophecies. Movement and text, myth and present day experiences are used to investigate how we have culturally neglected female emotional intelligence and intuition. July 9 – July 22 FRESH FRUIT FESTIVAL Produced by All Out Arts Tickets: $18 The 16th consecutive festival of LGBT arts returns to The Wild Project! FRESH FRUIT FESTIVAL Week 1: July 9 – 15 7/9 at 8pm, 7/13 at 6:30pm, 7/15 at 7pm PROPHESY by Karl Hinze At the fraught intersection of religion and sexuality, the poetic language of the religious mystics is juxtaposed with the vernacular of horny teenage boys. The audience includes anyone who ever had a crush on a teacher, who has questioned the existence of God, or who survived a Catholic high school. 7/10 at 6pm, 7/14 at 4:30pm, 7/15 at 5pm THE SONG OF BERNADETTE by Maura Campbell In this Award-winning story, a supernatural experiment yields the true meaning of forgiveness, and a lesson: love is more powerful and enduring than death. Queer identity, the grieving process, and magical realism, all figure in this tale of ultimate salvation. 7/10 at 8pm, 7/14 at 8:30pm, 7/15 at 3pm ALL MY LOVE, KATE by Joe Breen “I’ll Be Seeing You” (in all the old familiar places) was not just the resonant anthem for heterosexual couples in WW II, but resonated as well with Gay and Lesbian Americans left behind who often had no emotional support system in place. Who defines what patriotism really means? How do couples separated by half a world keep body and soul together when one becomes a POW? 7/11 at 8:30pm, 7/15 at 1:30pm AN UNCOMMON CORE written and performed by Abigail Swetz Meet Abigail Swetz, bringing her8th grade students safely through a heartbreaking year. Campus assaults, police brutality, homophobic violence, are defeated by the magic and power in her students’ own poetic words – words by students who bring hope for the future. 7/11 at 6pm, 7/12 at 8pm, 7/14 at 2pm HALF ME, HALF YOU by Liane Grant In 2017 America changed, and we all share the burden of inequality and injustice. What will this America look like in 2033? In this play of ideas, IVF becomes a platform for a broader discussion about womanhood and whether it is defined by parenthood or not. 7/12 at 6pm, 7/13 at 8:30pm, 7/14 at 6:30pm PEACE CAMP ORG by Mariam Bazeed In this true story from the Middle East, live music, puppetry, and satire are used to underscore the sometimes brutal, often humorous experiences which polarized campers - and audience - may share. The politics of normalization are brought under a critical yet enlightening lens in this rarely seen glimpse of Middle Eastern childhood. But is the defeat of unrealistic standards enough to cure an eating disorder? A jazzy piano underscores this truthful yet joyful telling of the experience of an eating disorder, told with interspersed spoken-word poetry. 7/19 at 6pm, 7/20 at 5:30pm, 7/21 at 3pm WHERE YOU EAT by Dennis Bush Does our sexuality define us? Does it enhance us? Is our sexual expression limited by society, the people in our lives, or by us?
