The air at the Booth becomes thick with the herbal cigarette smoke, masquerading as the Marlboros several "Boys," Rannells and especially a chain-smoking (plus faux joints) Quinto must suck on for almost two hours. Watching Quinto, almost never without one, and toking deeply, must top even Midler's Mengers.
I was upstairs, but my throat noticed it. I've been around them on/off in other performances, since circa 2003/4, but they are not a pleasant element in a show with multiple characters.
What's it like to smoke them eight times a week? One actor friend told me they give you foul breath, on par with tobacco. As Midler said, "smoke is smoke," and "I'll Eat You Last" was hard on Bette for that element. I realize they are non-addictive and nicotine free; I just wonder what it does to the mouth, throat and lungs of actors. I've forgotten, must it be included in AEA contracts? |
