As you may know, Lily Janiak has written some of the most baffling reviews of classic musicals in her short tenure at the Chronicle thus far. This is EXACTLY the type of show that is catnip to her, so I wasn't surprised.
Personally, I saw it this afternoon; I really loved it and found it fascinating. (I was glad that I had heard an earlier comparison to "Mr Burns"). It's entertaining as hell with a lush orchestra for the clever R&H pastiche songs and their layered "delivery vehicle." However, I really hope it finds a life in non-profits because I can't imagine it being mounted as a commercial Broadway production. (well, I can't imagine it recouping as a commercial Broadway production)
