| I have a few friends who love DM. Fans in the audience told me that this was their 2nd or 3rd visit. The standing O at the end says "something?" But I found it too cartoonish. Some of the songs were nice, but I'm not a friend of country western. I also think that the real "Measure for Measure" is an outstanding play -- with complex plot and characters. This show wasn't, thank G-D, a spoof, but a real try at trying to make a popular work. The singing was quite good (see below for my spin on another show) and the band was tuneful. I might change my site name to Curmudgeon. Tonight is the Tracy Letts play; I'm hopeful that a negative hat trick is not going to happen. (for the uninformed: a hat trick, I believe, is 3 goals from a hockey player which in old days won a chapeau from the haberdasher -- a negative hat trick would be 3 disappointing shows in one weekend). |
