This new-ish Irish play comes to the Public via the Abbey Theatre and Royal Court Theatre. Stephen Rea gives an extraordinary performance - what a fine stage actor he is - and Chris Corrigan gives a very spicey performance as well (the whole cast is fine - the men just carry most of the action). Vicky Featherstone is one of the UK's best directors, and here she is in top form. The author, David Ireland, is a playwright I am not familiar with ... from Northern Ireland, this is his 14th play produced in the UK. On the evidence of this production, he looks at the world similarly to Martin Mcdonagh. Comedy & extreme violence wedded to the political.
There is extreme violence of a disturbing nature in this production. And much humor, much of it pitch black. And well worth the viewing. And experiencing. |

THE HEART OF ROBIN HOOD - at Boscobel in Garrison, NY - is totally delightful. Well worth the trip. - theaterluvr 08:03 am EDT 06/25/18 |
