What a pleasure last night, at this beautifully written (by David Farr) retelling of the Robin Hood/Maid Marion myth by the Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival,
A perfectly-timed 1/2 hour rain interruption early in the first act added to the charm of this intimate production - not because the stage or audience is exposed, but because the sound of the passing storm drowned out the unmiked performers.
The excellent cast, led by Robyn Kerr (Marion) and Benjamin Bonenfant (Robin) under the sure-handed direction of Suzanne Agins, performs on an empty thrust stage - a sand pit with audience on three sides - in an open-backed tent. The backdrop is an expansive lawn overlooking a spectacular Hudson River panorama.
Costumes, lighting, music and sound make this a high-level theatrical production.
Many came early to picnic on the beautiful grounds. |
