I've been doing some research on Kurt Well. I've learned that in the 1948 musical Love Life that he wrote with Alan Jay Lerner, there was a song called "I Remember It Well." This was about nine years before Lerner and Loewe had a song with the same exact title for the film Gigi. Does anybody know about the earlier song? Were the lyrics at all similar? Thank you for any insights you may have. Rob

She kept trying to get AJL to revise or revive LOVE LIFE, and finally realized that he didn't want to do it because people, would see the similarities between the two songs. Laura, who maintains the only thing more fun than writing fictional dialogue for Lotte Lenya is putting words in Oscar Levant's mouth 😄

Thank You! So, the two versions are quite similar. It seems as if Alan Jay Lerner copied himself. Rob

"So, the two versions are quite similar. " Yes -- and the lead-in line to the song on the KURT WEILL ON BROADWAY recording is, if I remember it well, verbatim or almost verbatim the line that Maurice Chevalier says just before the song starts in the GIGI film: "I remember every detail of that evening, just as if it were yesterday."
