I also went tonight. The theater at Union Square seemed close to sold out, but it was a smaller house. Overall I thought it was very successful. The picture and camera-work were better than Allegiance, but the sound in the theater continues to be an issue. I’m convinced that it’s probably as much a problem with the venue as anything else. There just wasn’t much sparkle to the sound in a lot of places, even though the balance was pretty good overall.
If I had to critique it, I might say that’s was a bit heavy on the close-ups. I certainly could’ve used more wide shots to see the big-picture staging and choreography. The standout numbers on screen are the same as they were on stage: Act 1 closer, Act 2 opener and the finale. Really special. |
