It's not true-to-life at all, but Eric Stoltz is Goffin, Douglas is King, Kinset and Isaac are Weil and Mann and amalgams of several others, Dillon is Lou Adler, Bridget Fonda is Leslie Gore. Many of the stories are muddled and mixed with others from the era or built out of whole cloth.
The most fascinating thing about the film is the soundtrack--artists of the era were convinced to write songs as if from that time again.
I really like the Joni Mitchell song, although she is clearly making fun of herself in the lyrics. ("There's a lamp that won't light in my poetry room...") |
