| There was a production of 1776 outdoors at the "Independence Mall Theatre" in Philadelphia for three days in July 1976. The producer was the Cultural Affairs Council. Don Perkins was Adams and Sam Kressen was Franklin. The July 3 performance had a 9:30 curtain, and as the clock struck midnight, and John Adams was singing "I see fireworks," fireworks that were not a part of the show went off in the distance and were reflected against the tinted glass of a skyscraper. Unforgettable. |
