| Newman sounds so great on the "Subways Are For Sleeping" recording, and there are plenty of reports saying how sensational she was. Why didn't she have any sort of follow-up show in those years? Was she ever possibly considered for "Funny Girl"? Or some of the other musicals around that time? When she took on a matinee gig was it looked on as something of career comedown for someone who had just a few years before won a Tony? I realize she was also Mrs. Adolph Green as well, but she clearly had a lot of talent. I do recall once browsing an old book about films in a book store that listed her among possible stars of tomorrow in film. This book probably was written in the mid 60s. |
