| A very peculiar show. I'm not so familiar with it so I couldn't comment on what is new or changed, but what's on stage at the Irish Repertory Theatre is little more than a few under orchestrated lovely songs surrounded by a book that seems to be aiming for whimsy but is solidly planted in pesky. Everyone's works very hard to put this over, but the material just defeats them. The voices are good, and it's nice to hear them unamplified, but it's no fun watching pros drown in dreck. Streisand made hay of all this in the movie version and, based on this stage rendition, that may be all that can be made of it. |
