This is a really thoughtful and persuasive take on the Peters performance.
You know, I saw her Rose over halfway through the run of "Gypsy," and she was simply magnificent. A cold Saturday afternoon matinee. She was electric, one of the most defining "Gypsy" performances I've ever seen (I hold a special place for the Lansbury iteration in London). Vocally and otherwise, she was at the top of her game. Several people told me Peters couldn't find Rose. But it's possible that she works slowly and steadily and her performances find their ultimate footing a bit later. She's an actor, and too many people give her credit for her range. |
