I'm sure she was fantastic, as we can tell from the OBCR, the Bell Telephone Hour segment and her other performances we've seen over the years. Other women have apparently done well in the role, too, such as Linda Lavin in the short-lived first national tour, which was cut short because the producer's office folded after having produced too many tours that did not do especially well.
But without a Barbara Harris or someone comparable (not that I think anyone, not even Lavin, has probably ever been on her level in the role), the show's problems obviously balloon. |
