I see all the investors fighting to be allowed to put money into the Pruitts of Southampton musical. :)
Jerry Herman, of course, is unlikely to be writing anything. It's sad but I'm under the impression he's in such frail health that he hasn't been able to come to New York for Hello, Dolly! at any point during the run. If I'm wrong, I hope someone will correct me. Anyway, if he did write it, it would be his second Patrick Dennis-inspired show.
There's also been a Gilligan's Island musical, produced in Chicago, and it seems to be licensed.
Re The Addams Family: There was no strip like, say, Peanuts, Li'l Abner, Little Orphan Annie, Little Nemo in Slumberland or Andy Capp, all of which inspired musicals. The TV series was inspired by Addams cartoons that appeared in the New Yorker but while Addams cartoons may have been there every week or almost every week, many did not feature the prototypes for the characters in the TV series. The series invented names and relationships for characters inspired by some of the figures sometimes but not always seen in Addams's cartoons. |
