If you don't mind a 10 minute walk go over to Ninth Avenue, Tavola is very good and wood fired. It's in the old Mangenaro Italian ProvisionsStore on Ninth and 38th, and they have retained the classic interior. The pizza is great but if you are not in the mood to share your son's pizza, the rest of the menu is very solid and you'll be very happy at all the choices.
Another place that has wood fire is Capizzi, my neighbors love that place but I have not tried it yet, but it looks awesome when I walk by doing my grocery shopping nearby. It is on Ninth and 40th.
And yes, that neighborhood is safe to walk in at all hours. |
