I'm not sure how what you're describing amounts to something bad. It's a love story with a sad ending, that's tons of love stories. Why is it so bad that thy are torn apart?
And the score is very happy SOMETIMES but it's not like some relentless happy score. In fact the happiness song is Tap Your Troubles Away which is about covering up the sad stuff. But there are lots of songs that aren't "happy" and a few that are downright angry or sad. "Wherever He Ain't" and "I Won't Send Roses" and "Time Heals Everything" come immediately to mind.
And since when do characters in unhappy situations or who have sadness not get any happy music?
I'm not saying you're wrong, and i haven't read the book or seen a problem... but on paper, reading the issues discussed, I just don't get what the problem really is. |
