You cannot take these awards snubs seriously because it will drive you crazy. Two cases in point below:
1977: The songs "New York, New York" and "But The World Goes Round" are not even NOMINATED for Best Song Oscars. The winner: "You Light Up My LIfe." Yes. That piano bar perennial. The only other nominee worth mentioning: "The Spy Who Loved Me" (and I am being generous). Also snubbed: anything from "Saturday Night Fever". I am still scratching my head over this one. They don't go for Kander and Ebb. "Cabaret" in 1972 had "Mein Herr" and "The Money Song". Ignored. They nominated "I Move On" from Chicago but gave it to a "song" about the difficulty of being a pimp. Streisand presented the award and the expression on her face was priceless. She knows buckets about Oscar snubs!
2005: "Crash" takes the Best Picture Oacar over "Brokeback Mountain." No more need be said about this mistake.
Tony snubs are a bit different because conversely often they have to pad the categories (hello Sharon McNight for "Starmites"). I do think Rachel York deserved a nomination for "Victor/Victoria." And I think "The RInk" deserved a Best Musical nomination over "The Tap Dance Kid." |
