| Yes, and his Javert would have been fine if he hadn't needed to sing. While Preston had a difficult time reaching some of the higher notes in the musicals he did, he had a strong sense of musicality and decent pitch--I think Crowe can be an excellent actor (and probably should have had Oscars for both The Insider and a Beautiful Mind, rather than for channeling a more sulky version of Charlton Heston in Gladiator), but nothing in his work in Les Mis made me want to hear him sing again. |
