| I went with a sense of dread, because I had read so many negative things on this board. The cast is performing with the level of energy and enthusiasm and skill that you expect in a top flight Broadway production. Several numbers do come off well. The staging is imaginative. Those playing Warhol, Rubell, Sammy, the male hustler and Binky are all especially vibrant in their creation of believable characters. Some may quibble that Andy Warhol never championed the career of a Black recording artist, but in his stable of performers, there were many who were psychologically wounded people, like the fictional character in the play. If you have tickets to see this, don't stay home. Go and see for yourself. The creative team deserves credit for coming up with a musical based on an original idea, rather than giving us a retread of a film or a playlist from the jukebox. |
