I thought the cast playing the principle roles were very good vocalists and I'd like to add that Peter LaPrade as Chas was also talented. Several of the songs were enjoyable.
The book, though, just didn't keep me involved and I found the Binky character much too irritating. Some of the lyrics were also banal. There was one song in particular after Sammy has collapsed sung by Chad and Sammy which was particularly weak. The last scene was particularly rushed and I was surprised Sammy has quickly recovered from whatever bad state she was in.
I do appreciate that this isn't a jukebox music. I think, though, with the recent triumph of the Hedwig revival, expectations of work by StephenTrask and his collaborators are high. |
