I thought this show was very entertaining, and it resonated with me quite a bit.

I was 14 when The Go-Go's debut album, Beauty and the Beat, was released. I was also just awakening to and acknowledging my homosexuality. That album will always be inextricably linked to the tentative beginnings of my coming out, and, along with Donna Summer's Bad Girls and Diana Ross' Diana - became the soundtrack to my teen years.

So much for context. Back to tonight's show. The show is very LGBTQ affirming and reflects that in the on-stage relationships, the choreography, the themes of acceptance and inclusivity, and the casting of a trans woman as a principle character (the wonderful Peppermint). Hearing those songs in that context felt so right to me as I reflected on my initial encounter with that music some 37 years ago as a gay teen just beginning to come out - in an environment very different from the one we have today. The music, and the emotions expressed therein, always felt affirming to me and tonight's show confirmed what I felt but hadn't before articulated.

The performances are also quite good. Rachel York and Jeremy Kushnier are predictably excellent as the King and Queen of Arcadia. Peppermint is divalicious as only she can be, and my favorite performance of the evening belonged to Bonnie Milligen as Pamela. She was very funny and assured in her characterization of the haughty sister, Pamela.

The hard working chorus beautifully executes Spencer Liff's choreography. Have we seen Broadway choreography that contains elements of vogue? I think that may be a first here as well.

No, this show isn't going to be everyone's cup of tea, but I had a great time and was lucky to have a wonderful seat thanks to TDF. I enjoyed the juxtaposition of the Ancient Greek setting, the sly comedy and the Go-Go's pop-punk-new wave sound.

Also, a shout out to the EXCELLENT all-female band. They help keep this show buoyant. Really fun stuff.
