| Jeff Loeffelholz passed away on Friday, June 29, and I first heard of the news from BroadwayWorld on Thursday, July 5 (''Original 'Chicago' Revival Cast Member Jeff Loeffelholz Passes Away''). The next day, BroadwayWorld ran a story recapping the July 6 report in the N.Y. Post: '' 'Chicago' cast member's suicide probed after backstage bullying allegations.'' It includes claims by a blog called Justice for Jeff, plus the news that ''Chicago'' hired a lawyer to look into the matter. And it had a quote from ''Chicago'' director Walter Bobbie, ''saddened by Jeff's tragic passing.'' The N.Y. Post story has been picked up by a handful of sites, including the Daily Mail in Britain. 1010 WINS did a July 6 report, interviewing Peter De La Cruz, Loeffelholz's partner of more than 30 years. Included: a quote from Equity. But unless I've missed it (and I Googled), there's been nothing reported about Loeffelholz at Playbill.com, TheaterMania.com or Broadway.com. Not just about the reported allegations of Loeffelholz being bullied, but the simple fact that this Broadway actor has died. In Googling, I found this July 5 tweet by Maddy Trumble: ''@Playbill wondering why you haven't written about Jeff Loeffelholz's death? He was part of the community for years and on Broadway for the last 22. Please acknowledge him.'' I can only assume that the N.Y. Times is working on a story, but who knows? Only time will tell. |
