Thanks, Wisebear. Having been a lifelong journalist, I totally understand the concerns of libel.
But Playbill, TheaterMania and Broadway.com are ostensibly theater news sites, and could report Loeffelholz's passing, without mentioning the allegations (which is what BroadwayWorld initially did). It's not every day that an actor's associated with a Broadway show for over 20 years. And his life was about more than ''Chicago.'' He also did a MAC Award-winning cabaret act, Dangerous Duets, and John Kander thought highly enough of Loeffelholz to ask him to participate in the workshop of ''The Visit.'' This Broadway pro is at least worthy of an obit at these theater websites.
The message boards are another thing. There's been wild speculation (on both sides) that seems totally out of line. |
