I wonder if any scheduling for New York (Broadway or Off) would be dependent on Conrad Ricamora's work schedule for his television series. I guess it depends on how much the creative team loves him and wants him to continue.
If that's the case, barring the unforeseen, the show would have a pretty narrow window when Ricamora would be available, essentially this same time slot in one year. They may not want to "waste" Ricamora on a non-profit run at the Public when they could open the show on Broadway and have him get a Tony nomination, if not win. Does anyone remember how the timing of KING AND I worked with his television schedule?
I wonder if they might do a run at the Public with someone else in the role, and then time a Broadway transfer for when Ricamora is available.
Another possibility is that the powers that be at HOW TO GET AWAY WITH MURDER might be able to arrange to have Ricamora film his scenes on Sundays and Mondays, while the powers that be at SOFT POWER would have an alternate play the Sunday matinee. Then Ricamora would be on for 7 performances a week until his hiatus. I have no idea if that idea is even practical. Ricamora's popularity has lead to the expansion of his role on HOW TO GET AWAY WITH MURDER and it may not even be possible for him to shuttle back and forth and do both in any practical way. |
