| I guess that I give people.....even Tony voters....more credit as individuals than you do. When I view a performance I bring all of my personal experiences with me. not just the few factors that might identify me with a particular minority background. Sure there are people that will vote as a Tony voter or general election voter based on having certain backgrounds but I believe that most of us vote based on the totality of our human experiences. I believe that The Band's Visit is a good example of this. One doesn't need a Jewish or Muslim background to relate to the characters and the situations. It won't even make the characters more easily relatable. It's about relating to each other as individuals that makes the production work. I am uncomfortable singling out the Jewish voting as a group when I don't believe that there is one. |
