| I somewhat remember an unusual case involving an actor with a run-of-show contract with the original production of Passion. The actor was Bill Duff Griffin. Griffin had a run-of-show contract but he was replaced during previews by Tom Aldridge. Despite being replaced, Griffin continued drawing his full weekly salary. However, Griffin got sick with prostate cancer and died before the show closed. I don't remember the specific details, but I believe the production company tried to stop paying the weekly salary when Griffin got sick, arguing that if he was incapacitated he could not be expected to perform and therefore was not eligible to be paid. I also recall that there was a lawsuit involving this even after he died arguing that his estate should continue receiving the weekly salary until the show actually closed. I couldn't find any coverage of this situation with an internet search, but I remember it was quite a story at the time. Griffin was survived by his partner Robert Joy. Does anyone remember how this played out? |
