I don't actually find Eliza to be that hard of a singing. An excellent foundation of good technique and staying in shape through regular practice and moderation should make it fine. But if you have limited experience doing that kind of schedule and singing that much while also balancing family life I can see it being difficult.
I didn't find her sound unpleasant, but in the audience I was shocked at just how much effort it appeared she was expending to do it. A lot of times it makes me think of a quote from my favorite CHEESY movie, Center Stage. Peter Gallagher (just to bring it back to Broadway) says to a dancer, "Maureen, you make it look like WORK. I want to see the movement, not the effort behind it." |
