Sorry, when I saw Peters last Tuesday she was in wonderful voice. She attacked "Parade" with the same vocal energy and musicality that she had when she was younger. The vibrato has widened, but she's singing this score, and eight times a week. I don't understand the grousing about her singing in general. Maybe that's a different subject.

Midler (last August) sang it fine, but she has a pop instrument, at least in effect, and to my ears, it's that pop inflection that is sometimes at odds with the vintage Herman. I don't especially like her work on the B'way recording; she's too cautious and her character is all over the place (she's suddenly Irish in "Sunday Clothes"). But she was good in the Shubert.
