| In a beautiful essay, Tony nominee Bobby Steggert explains why he has left the arts to pursue a master's degree in social work. Ironically, Bobby also hails the importance of being an artist in these times, and celebrates their bravery, purpose and passion. I wish Bobby all the best in finding the fulfillment he seeks in social work, but I'd also like to thank him for his legacy of fine performances: from ''110 in the Shade'' to ''Ragtime'' to ''Big Fish.'' Bobby even once sang ''Larger Than Life'' for our ''Leading Men III'' benefit concert for Broadway Cares in 2008. But, to quote a title of a lovely song he sang in ''Yank! A WW II Love Story,'' I'll always be ''Remembering [Him]'' as Stu in David & Joseph Zellnik's terrific gay musical. ''Yank!'' should've gone to Broadway and won many Tonys, including one for Bobby's brilliant work. Toward the end of the essay, Bobby includes the phrase: ''If I ever return to acting.'' If he does, I hope I'll be first in line to buy a ticket. |
