| You've gotten some of your facts wrong. There were zero protests outside the theater for the Broadway show you refer to in your parentheses. There were zero people calling for that show to get shut down over their hiring practices. The original article that questioned that show's hiring practices was less pointed and critical of the show and its creatives than the Justice for Jeff blog has been in regards to "Chicago" and its creatives. I share your question about why we as a community have been less quick to engage ourselves in Loeffelholz's struggle, but I think part of is it that this story has appeared out of the blue and does not involve an actor who A) is well-known to the community and B) had already had a public struggle with the producers. It also is possible that there is less sympathy for a middle-aged white guy with a well-paying job, but I believe (or hope) that most people who are engaged in the movement to explore how color effects our choices have empathy for all people, including white folks. |
