"So many films have been ruined by split second edits; Chicago (Reached For The Gun and All That Jazz) and the filmed DVD version of Cats to name the most ruined I can think of among present day musicals. When dance numbers are involved, it's simple. Send the editor out for coffee. Pull the camera back about 30-40 feet and let it roll. Then take the 'take' and keep it away from the editor. "
Well, I wouldn't go quite THAT far! There are many examples of great editing of musical numbers in films, WEST SIDE STORY being perhaps the prime example. |
