It's been reported online that CBS didn't even submit the Tonys for Best Variety Special.
Interestingly, seven of the eight living people who need the Emmy to complete the EGOT are Broadway composers: Andrew Lloyd Webber, Tim Rice, Benj Pasek, Justin Paul, Elton John, Stephen Sondheim, and Alan Menken. (Menken has a non-competitive special Emmy). The other person is John Legend. |
