To me it's the same result. For Frozen, it would be Chenoweth making the obvious stage pairing (given the success of Wicked) in a show identified with Menzel (for the film and of course for the original "Let It Go"). Age wouldn't matter - it's the pairing of the two actresses that would be the draw.
When Merman starred in the original Annie Get Your Gun she was already way too old for the role in literal terms (Oakley was most probably in her early 20's when she married Frank Butler, and still in her teens when she met him), but of course it didn't seem to matter. But for those people coming to see her reprise the role 20 years later in the 1966 revival, this was no longer about the age of the character at all - it was a chance to see Merman do the role again. I think it would be a similar effect in seeing Idina and Kristin team up in a show that allows them to play a love/hate relationship somewhat similar to that in Wicked, regardless of the actress' ages. Like you said, you'd see them if they played college students in Wicked again...;-) |
